RenoChats : sharing the experts’ knowledge of the renovation sector

Videoprogram, financed by the EU-LIFE project EU Peers (www.eu-peers.eu)

What is RenoChat?

Renochats are interviews of approximately one hour with a specialist or a respected player in the sector, presented in a "conversation" format to open the door to the best knowledge and know-how of renovation accessible to as many people as possible. Each Renochat is registered in the expert’s language and subtitled in English.

Broadcast on YouTube at a monthly frequency, each episode is complemented by a list of links to access references to the best available work, as well as the possibility of exchanging live by email with the interviewed specialist.

The initial topics presented in the Renochats are focused on the most widely recognized need: financing solutions. This initial positioning will gradually be expanded with topics relating to support for precariousness, the convergence of professional practices, promotion of new knowledge, and more.

RenoChats #1 : Françoise Réfabert, President of FILAO LABS, who talks about financing energy renovation. (FIDEO BRE - Banque de la Rénovation Energétique)

Françoise Réfabert shares her career journey: from banking, where she attempted at the end of the 2000s to develop an integrated energy renovation support and financing offer; to her departure to develop this idea within a public service framework, leading to her current project: the creation of a financing company dedicated to efficient renovations.

RenoChats #2 :  Sébastien Delpont, President and founder of Ressorts, who talks about financing energy renovation.

Sébastien Delpont recounts her career : ‘Innovating in the financing of renovations for the most vulnerable is decisive. The recent European directive on the energy efficiency of buildings reminds us of this.

Despite good intentions, it's inevitable that public policies on complex issues have ‘blind spots’.

The cost of works can be prohibitive for certain types of building, property values may be low or households may already suffer from a high level of energy deprivation: sometimes the microeconomic equation between the cost of works and the benefits to the household is not balanced. If we widen the focus to the benefits generated by such work for public policies other than renovation: education, health, climate adaptation, biodiversity, urban infrastructure, etc.

And yet these projects are so meaningful and powerful in macro-economic terms. There are opportunities to explore new financing methods by organizing inter-administrative coalitions.

This approach has already been successful in the fight against homelessness, so why not try to apply it in case of the most vulnerable?'

RenoChats no3 : Stéphanie Flacher, former banker and expert in digital trust ; talks about the need for the emergence of a ‘deep renovation capitalism’ to free up bank financing.

Stéphanie Flacher shares her vision: "Financing energy-efficient renovation requires an innovative banking framework that combines profitability with real impact.

For the past 30 years, financial speculation, amplified by digitalization, has disconnected banking from the real economy, making investments less traceable and less redistributive.

To reverse this trend, we should first view environmental and social value not as a cost, but as a genuine lever for wealth creation. Operational and digital traceability of deep renovations would then ensure commitments are properly fulfilled and strengthen the role of banks as trusted third parties for the real economy, while ensuring compliance with Basel IV requirements.

In this way, banks could effectively finance the energy transition, going well beyond merely promoting sustainable capitalism."
